Conservation
Matters in Media Art
is a multi-phase
project designed to provide guidelines
for care of time-based media works of
art (e.g., video, film, audio and
computer based installations). The
project was created in 2003 by a
consortium of curators, conservators,
registrars and media technical managers
from New
Art Trust, MoMA,
SFMOMA and Tate.
The consortium launched its first phase,
on loaning time-based media works, in
2004, and its second phase, on acquiring
time-based media works, in 2007.

Exhibitions
Anatomy
of an Exhibition Web
presentation on the National Gallery
of Art website is worth a look.
This
site offers a glimpse behind the
scenes during the planning and
construction of an exhibition
(2000/2001) at the National Gallery
of Art, Art Nouveau, 1890-1914, the
largest and most comprehensive
exhibition on the subject ever
organized.

Loans
Established in
1993 with generous
funding from the John S.
and James L. Knight
Foundation and The Pew
Charitable Trusts, the
Museum Loan
Network
strives to make objects
of cultural heritage
more accessible to the
public by encouraging
collecting institutions
to share these works
over extended periods of
time. The MLN now
maintains a directory of
20,000 artifacts
available for long-term
loan from 400
participating
institutions. In
addition to providing
information on lendable
objects, the MLN
directory acts as a
means of connecting
museum professionals all
around the country,
encouraging
collaborations between
collecting
institutions. Read more

MLN website.
